SITE GRADE A/B/C - Some flat areas along a pathway. Some steep slopes. Some brush. Some areas may have heavy trash. Complete mobility is needed.


WHAT: Volunteers will cleaning areas along the Mississippi Greenway and River, near the Mary Meachum Freedom Crossing memorial. This is a land-based cleanup. Volunteers will receive a t-shirt for participating in Confluence Trash Bash!

After the clean up, join us at The Audubon Center at Riverlands for the Watershed Picnic and Festival and Passport to Clean Water educational event from 11am - 2pm to celebrate our efforts and hard work! The festival will be hosted by Open Space STL, The Audubon Center at Riverlands, and The Army Corps of Engineers, and will feature free food, drinks, and activities for the whole family!

We'll also have a trash contest for all clean up participants. Did you find the most valuable trash? The weirdest trash? The most bottles of Fireball? Bring them to the picnic for bragging rights... and prizes!

WHEN: 9:00am, Saturday, April 11th. Volunteer check-in will begin at 8:45 am.

WHERE: Mary Meachum Freedom Crossing, St Louis Riverfront Trail, St. Louis, MO 63147. Volunteers will drive along the Mississippi Greenway to get to the Mary Meachum Center parking, please drive slowly and keep an eye out for trail users. (see map below)

Take Adelaide east to Hall St. Go South on Hall St. to Prairie, then go through the opening under the railroad tracks and turn right.

Volunteer check-in will be near the Mary Meachum Visitor Center:  Click this map for exact meeting location. The map below shows the best way to drive there.

WHAT TO WEAR:

  • Dress for the weather

  • Wear clothes that can get dirty

  • Closed-toe, sturdy shoes or boots

  • Hat & sunscreen

WHAT TO BRING: 

  • A filled bottle of water - we recommend reusable!

  • Bug spray


 REGISTRATION NOTES


  • The annual OS-STL liability waiver must be signed and approved before a volunteer can register for this cleanup opportunity. To see if you have met this qualification, please view your profile here
  • A parent or guardian must accompany anyone under 16
  • This land-based cleanup does not require a canoe/kayak
  • We encourage volunteers to pre-register, but walk-ups are always welcome.
  • T-shirts are on a first come, first served basis. Some sizes may not be available for volunteers.  If this site does not have enough t-shirts, come to the picnic to see if more are available there
  • In case of inclement weather this event will be canceled. We will reach out to all registered volunteers by email. You can also check our Facebook page (Open Space STL) for updates.
