Who We Are

Open Space STL is proud to be the main organizer of the #TrashBash alongside our partners from Great Rivers GreenwayMSD Project Clear, and Earthways Center. Through coordinated efforts, we annually host the #ConfluenceTrashBash.

*These are part of an extensive effort to provide land and water clean-ups at various sites throughout the Missouri and Mississippi River Confluence and their watersheds in the Spring and the River des Peres and its watersheds in the Fall. These clean-ups help create better habitats for our native species and clean water for our community.

*As Stream Team #5, we see this as an extension of our Operation Clean Stream Meramec River Clean-Up, which we host annually in the Summer. We are happy to offer these opportunities throughout the year and region.

Dedicated volunteers help clean up the rivers and creeks within the Confluence & River des Peres watersheds each year! In 2021 over 900 volunteers chose from clean-up or storm drain marking sites within these watersheds, and over 500 storm drains were marked. You can view the 2021 Confluence Trash Bash Report on our website.

What We Do

Confluence Trash Bash is held annually on the second Saturday in April; CTB 2025 will be April 12th!

All guided cleanup opportunities have a site supervisor present to provide volunteers with supplies, sign-in participants, and lead them through the cleanup of the chosen site.

We provide volunteers with work gloves and trash bags for their cleanups. The event is free. Volunteers pre-register and complete a liability waiver to receive their free t-shirt, select a cleanup site, and help event organizers coordinate supplies. Upon registering, volunteers receive confirmation emails regarding collecting trash and where to place garbage once it is collected. We could remove tons of trash, create a better habitat for wildlife, and protect our waterways from pollution so that everyone can enjoy the benefit of clean water!

Volunteers are always encouraged to take pictures and share them on social media using the #ConfluenceTrashBash so that everyone can join in the fun!
