Recommended for ages 16 and up. Sites containing inappropriate trash (condoms, drug paraphernalia) may also be ranked as C even if it is not difficult terrain. WHAT: Volunteers will clean up along The Centennial Greenway, led by Sierra Club Outings Leaders. Sierra Club EMG has adopted this 2-mile section of the Centennial Greenway for trash pick-up and will plan for quarterly trash pick ups. Registration for this event is on the Sierra Club EMG website: Sierra Club Cleanup along The Centennial Greenway After the clean up, join us at The Audubon Center at Riverlands for our Watershed Picnic and Festival and Passport to Clean Water educational event from 11am - 2pm to celebrate our efforts and hard work! The festival will be hosted by Open Space STL, The Audubon Center at Riverlands, and The Army Corps of Engineers, and will feature free food, drinks, and activities for the whole family! We'll also have a trash contest for all clean up participants. Did you find the most valuable trash? The weirdest trash? The most bottles of Fireball? Bring them to the picnic for bragging rights... and prizes! WHEN: 9am-11am, Saturday, April 11th. Volunteer check-in will begin at 8:45am. WHERE: The Sierra Club EMG is joining Open Space STL for this trash pickup as part of the Open Space STL Annual Confluence Trash Bash!!! We will meet in the parking lot near Half Price Books on the northeast corner of Delmar and McKnight in University City which is the mid-point of our 2-mile section. Coordinates: 38.6618468, -90.3567087
Our section of the Greenway extends from Olive Blvd to Shaw Park and we will break into two groups. One group will walk 1-mile north to Olive Blvd and the other will walk 1-mile south to Shaw Park. You will find that you’ll have fun being social with other trash haters during this event.
Bring water-hydration is very important! (Gloves, hand pickers, and garbage sacks will be provided).
