Site Grade: Flat. Open. Suitable for all ages and some with limited mobility.


WHAT: Join us at George Appel Park to remove trash from the park and areas surrounding the River Des Peres Watershed. This is a land-based cleanup. Volunteers will receive a t-shirt for participating in The Trash Bash!

This site also includes Storm Drain Marking, for any volunteers who are interested. Storm Draining Marking provides a visible reminder of the impact of improper waste disposal, and helps communicate to the community that storm drains can carry pollution to area rivers and streams. As a storm drain marking volunteers, you will be provided with a map and all the supplies to mark the location of storm drains, helping to maintain the health of our area waterways.

WHEN: 9:00am, Saturday, October 25th. Volunteer check-in will begin at 8:45am. 

WHERE: Meet at George Appel Memorial Park. see map for exact location.

WHAT TO WEAR:

  • Dress for the weather

  • Wear clothes that can get dirty

  • Closed-toe, sturdy shoes or boots

  • Hat & sunscreen

WHAT TO BRING: 

  • A filled bottle of water - we recommend reusable!

  • Bug spray


 REGISTRATION NOTES

  • The annual OS-STL liability waiver must be signed and approved before a volunteer can register for this cleanup opportunity. To see if you have met this qualification, please view your profile here

  • A parent or guardian must accompany anyone under 16

  • This land-based cleanup does not require a canoe/kayak

ALL VOLUNTEERS ARE INVITED to a post-cleanup celebratory picnic at Deer Creek Park! Enjoy food, drinks, comradery, and our youth event, Passport to Clean Water! 

We'll also have a trash contest, with prizes for:

  • Biggest Trash

  • Weirdest Trash

  • Most Bottles of Fireball

Bring your trash to the picnic to win! (Trash must be brought to the picnic for us all to admire, unless it is too large to move.)
