Who We Are

Since 1967, Open Space STL has organized Operation Clean Stream, one of the country’s most significant and longest-running river restoration projects. Every August, volunteers take to the Meramec River and its tributaries, working to undo the damage caused throughout the year by flooding, careless littering, and the unlawful dumping of debris. Volunteers participate both in canoes and boats, on the shore, in nearby parks, and along trails.

What We Do

Every summer, Operation Clean Stream volunteers participate at various locations throughout the Meramec River and its watershed. Operation Clean Stream is always the 4th weekend in August!

In addition, our Passport To Clean Water event helps educate youth about why these clean-ups and clean water are essential for our communities. It brings together organizations who share that mission and allows them to spread the word about their organizations' role in clean water efforts and habitat protection around St. Louis.

We organize clean-ups for groups, organizations, and corporate and small businesses. For more information on private cleanups, contact volunteer@openspacestl.org

Over the last couple of years, we have seen how important open spaces and clean water are to our communities' health and well-being. So we thank you for helping to keep them beautiful and clean!
