Our area streams suffer from "nonpoint source" pollution which occurs when runoff from rain and snowmelt carry pollutants into our underground storm sewer system. These pollutants include fertilizer and herbicide used in our lawns, improperly disposed of household chemicals, oil, pet and animal waste, litter, and more. The polluted runoff flows through the sewer system and is released into our local waterways. By installing plaques that say "No Dumping, Drains to Stream" on our storm drains, we are reminded of the consequences of improper waste disposal.
