Invasive Removal 101 (with Lab)

Calendar Happens On May 30, 2026
Time 9am - 12pm

Description

WHAT:
This unique event covers all the basics from invasive species indentification through maintenance to eradication.

Tutorials and plenty of practice will be available on a variety of techniques to control and remove unwelcome invasive plants!

The event will start with an identification of invasive species tutorial. We will be looking for:

  • Honeysuckle
  • Winter Creeper
  • Bradford Pear
  • White Mulberry
  • Tree of Heaven
  • Poison Ivy (not invasive, but good to ID)

Armed with knowledge, volunteers will lead hands on tutorials on different methods of invasive control.  Volunteers are invited to rotate to get training and experience in any desired skills:

  • Cutting/Trimming
  • Root Removal
  • Herbicide application (foliar/dauber)
  • Vine removal
  • Mulching

Volunteers will then be able to practice their learned techniques by removing these species from the park!

This event is designed to be less physically strenuous (other than root digging) but should give a great toolbox for anyone looking to better their community green spaces!

WHERE:

We found a great spot near the large roundabout that is relatively flat and has several of the invasive species we will be covering. https://maps.app.goo.gl/2jVjW3KXAuAVNtDYA
