Contribute to increasing the biodiversity in a rare old growth swamp woodland at Lower Meramec Park. Volunteers will slow the spread of invasive garlic mustard and honeysuckle by pulling small plants from the moist soil. We will cut back and treat with glyphosate any larger honeysuckle bushes.
Time permitting, we will take a stroll around the swamp woodland to identify native plants and wildlife that reside in this unique habitat. Also, we may collect seed from native grasses and other plants for use in woodland restoration elsewhere in the park.
Arrive at 8:45am at the Holzer Park entrance parking lot off Meramec Bottoms Road. The project area is about 10 minute walk from the parking lot.
