Place and Parking: Family Forward, 11358 Van Cleve Ave, St Louis County 63114. Exact location here.
Coordinates: 38.710408, -90.408076
The Family Forward five-acre campus is ¾ mile north of Page, off Lindbergh/Highway 67. From I-64/40, drive north on Lindbergh for 5 miles. About 1000 feet past the Dorsett/ Midland overpass, turn right into the Family Forward parking lot. The campus buildings are visible on your right. The larger glass structure is the location of the tree planting so once you enter the campus, you will need to immediately take a right through the parking lot and drive around Midland Blvd to the front of the building. A volunteer sign in table will be at the front entrance.
Description of Outing: Family Forward is the new name of the Children’s Home Society of Missouri, a long-time non-profit provider of services to abused and neglected children. The Sierra Club is supporting their efforts to install a sensory garden on the five-acre campus, the first phase of which will be planting approximately 70 three-gallon native trees and scrubs in a planned landscaping scheme. Luckily, the contractor for the hardscape, McCarthy, will augur the holes beforehand so our job will be to make sure the trees and scrubs are properly planted.
Breakfast snacks and lunch will be provided. You can leave anytime you wish but we are planning on being there until all 70 pots are planted.
Difficulty: Moderate as all the holes should be pre-dug. Moderate Terrain
The group size is not limited. All participants must sign a Family Forward waiver.
Water, Food, and Gear: Bring water, sunscreen, good boots and a shovel. Family Forward will provide food.
Bathroom Availability: At the facility.
Leader: Jack Hambene jack.hambene@sbcglobal.net 314-922-3058.
