Contribute to increasing the biodiversity in a rare old growth swamp woodland at Lower Meramec Park. Volunteers will slow the spread of invasive garlic mustard and honeysuckle by pulling small plants from the moist soil. We'll plant in their place beautiful spring blooming wildflowers around a natural spring that feeds the perennial woodland swamp.
Time permitting, we will conduct a training demonstration on testing for water quality. Demonstration will involve assessing aquatic insects present near the spring head. We'll also be looking for amphibians using this unique habitat for their home.
Arrive at 8:45am at the Holzer Park entrance parking lot off Meramec Bottoms Road.
