SITE GRADE C - Heavy trash. Heavy brush. Steep slopes. Full mobility needed. Recommended for ages 16 and up. Sites containing inappropriate trash (condoms, drug paraphernalia) should also be ranked as C even if it is not difficult terrain.
WHAT: Volunteers will clean up Ellis Island with Leave No Trace as part of the Leave No Trace Spotlight on Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary.
Volunteers will meet at The Audubon Center and and travel from the parking lot access from Riverlands Way. This may require a walk/hike on gravel and dirt paths up to 2 miles if desired
Site may have exposure to biohazards, sharps, stinging/biting insects, poison ivy (Ellis Island only), etc.

After the clean up, join us at The Audubon Center at Riverlands for the Watershed Picnic and Festival and Passport to Clean Water educational event from 11am - 2pm to celebrate our efforts and hard work! The festival will be hosted by Open Space STL, The Audubon Center at Riverlands, The Army Corps of Engineers, and Leave No Trace, and will feature free food, drinks, and activities for the whole family!
We'll also have a trash contest for all clean up participants. Did you find the biggest trash? The weirdest trash? The most bottles of Fireball? Bring them to the picnic for bragging rights... and prizes!
WHEN: 8:30-11:30am, Saturday, April 12th. Volunteer check-in will begin at 8:15am.

- Homebase will be at the Audubon Center at Riverlands (Visitor Center), LNT will have pop-up education tent. This will be main check-in there, welcome, supply grab.

A filled water bottle - we recommend reusable!
