As a member organization of BiodiverseCity St. Louis, The Open Space Council (OSC) proudly participates in Missouri Botanical Garden's Honeysuckle Sweep for Healthy Habitat initiative every March and November.
Bush honeysuckle (Lonicera maackii) is one of the most destructive invasive species in the St. Louis region. It negatively impacts native plant diversity, forest health, local wildlife, and even water quality. Incredibly adapted to our region, this invasive species can quickly dominate St. Louis parks, trails, and neighborhoods, negatively impacting human health and recreational opportunities within the community. With the help of volunteers like you, OSC and partner organizations are able to remove bush honeysuckle and replant formerly infested areas with native plant species that improve ecological, economic, and recreational value across the St. Louis region.
