Description

Rte 66 Hack #4

WHAT:
"If you ever plan to motor west Travel my way, take the highway that is best. Get your kicks on Route sixty six!
" From the 1946 song written by Bobby Troup and sung by Nat King Cole.

What better way to get some kicks then by hacking some honeysuckle at Route 66! There is plenty of hacking needed to clear the invasive bush Honeysuckle and Callery Pears that are taking over this historic park.

In case you need even more motivation, we believe the invasives at Route 66 are a primary "source" for much of the spreading Honeysuckle in the area. There is quite a bit of water and open space in the park, making it a favorite spot for birds to hang out. The birds eat the berries and, well, you know what happens after that!

By joining this event you can help reduce the spread of Honeysuckle by stopping it at the source.

Optional Post Event Social Activity: After our work is done for the morning we'll gather at the picnic area nearby where we can sit back, socialize and appreciate that results of our efforts!

We’ll have a mix of beer and coolers as well as soft drinks but please feel free to bring your own favorite beverages and snacks/lunch foods.

Please join me for this Open Space event at Route 66. We have lots to do!

WHERE: We'll be working along the "inner loop" road near the pedestrian entrance to the park. Drive along the loop until you see the Open Space sign near the work site. You can park along the road on the left shoulder. Exact location here
