Please join us for The 59th Annual Operation Clean Stream, the longest-running river cleanup effort in the US.

In advance of the main event on August 22nd, we invite you to participate in a special kickoff cleanup on August 11. This early effort is made possible with the support of Open Space STL, Sierra Club, The Alpine Shop, and Missouri Stream Team. Special thanks to The Mighty 211 Stream Team for providing canoes and to The Alpine Shop for providing kayaks!

We'll paddle seven miles along the Meramec River from Pacific Palisades to Allenton, stopping to pick up litter and dig out tires left behind in the river. Let's make the river a better place to be!

WHAT: Volunteers will clean up the Meramec River section from the Pacific Palisades boat ramp to the Allenton boat ramp. Volunteers will meet at the Allenton Boat ramp, and  shuttle to Pacific Palisades to begin the trip. Boats will be provided for those who need them, and Volunteers are expected to assist in loading and unloading! There will be a limited number of boats available for those who need them, meaning volunteers must register via this link. Each registration is for one seat in a canoe or kayak. If you have two people for a canoe, make sure they both register!

Walk-ups will not be guaranteed a boat. 

The clean up is estimated to end around 3:00, but it is important to note that clean up duration may be affected by river speeds. Volunteers will receive a t-shirt for participating in Operation Clean Stream!

WHEN: Tuesday, August 11th. Meet at Allenton Access at 8am. We will shuttle cars and plan to be on the river at Pacific Palisades around 9am.

WHAT: As part of the 59th Operation Clean Stream, this water-based volunteer opportunity will focus on picking up litter in the Meramec River from Greentree Park to George Winter Park. Each registration is for one seat in a 2-person canoe. If you have two people for a canoe, make sure they both register! Volunteers are expected to assist in loading and unloading boats!

WHEN: 9:00am, Saturday, August 22nd. Volunteer check-in will take place at 8:45am

WHERE: Meet at George Winter Park, then shuttle to the boat ramp at Greentree Park, 2202 Marshall Rd, Kirkwood, MO 63122 - see map for location.

Transportation (Two Options): (IMPORTANT)

Arrange your own transportation with a family member or friend to drop off a car at George Winter Park at 8:30 am in the morning, then have them take you to Greentree Park to the boat ramp. Then you will have a car staged at George Winter to use after the float. Then you can go to the picnic at Simpson Park.

Very Limited Capacity - Drop off your car in the morning at George Winter and go with me to Greentree Park. Trip Leader can transport three or four people. He will reach out a few days before the cleanup to determine who needs to shuttle with him.  For this option, meet him at George Winter Park at 8:15 am. George Winter Park address is: 401 Allen Road Fenton, MO 63026. We will leave George Winter Park no later than 8:30 am.

WHAT: As part of the 59th annual Operation Clean Stream, volunteers will clean up the Meramec River section from Route 66 State Park boat ramp to Sherman Beach. Volunteers will meet at Route 66 State Park boat ramp, carpool/shuttle to Sherman Beach then drive back to the Route 66 SP boat ramp to start the trip. We can provide boats for volunteers at this site, though you are also welcome to bring your own.

Volunteers will meet at Route 66 State Park to leave boats at the ramp, then they will shuttle cars to the take out ramp at Sherman Beach Park, 1590 St Paul Rd, Ballwin, MO 63021, exact location here. 

Volunteers will then return to the Route 66 boat ramp to begin their float.

WHAT: Let's clean up the riverside! Adam Rembert will lead a group under the bridge, to clean up trash along and above the riverbank. This cleanup does not involve boats or getting into the water, though you may get your feet wet if you walk too close to the river!

Woods Access near Meramec Spring Park to Bird’s Nest Access near Steelville. Volunteers will meet at Steelville Middle School and disperse to cleanup areas from there. This is a Bring Your Own Boat event.

WHAT: As part of the 59th annual Operation Clean Stream, this water-based volunteer opportunity will focus on picking up litter in the Meramec River from The Castlewood Boat Ramp to the Greentree Park Boat Ramp. 

Volunteers will meet at the Castlewood Park to drop boats off at the boat ramp, shuttle to Greentree park to leave cars at the takeout, then drive back to Castlewood to start the float. Please note, this particular opportunity is Bring Your Own Boat (BYOB).

WHEN: 9:00am, Saturday, August 22nd. Volunteer check-in will begin at 8:45am.

WHERE: Volunteers will meet at the Castlewood boat ramp, then shuttle cars to Greentree Park. The Castlewood boat ramp will be opened for volunteers on that day only.

Volunteers can clean up on land, with some canoes and other boats available on a limited bases. Everyone will receive a free t-shirt for participating in Operation Clean Stream!

Trip Leader: STL Clean Up Crew

WHAT: As part of the 59th annual Operation Clean Stream, volunteers will clean trash from areas along the River Scene Trail in Castlewood State Park. This area was flooded multiple times over the past year. Volunteers will not get in the water for this cleanup. Wheelbarrows may be useful to transport larger pieces and amounts of trash. There are several large pieces of trash including: refrigerators, doors, and parts of a port-a-potty. 

All volunteers will receive a t-shirt for participating in Operation Clean Stream!
