Together, we’ll be clearing invasive honeysuckle from the woods near the Mustang Shelter and trail. This effort will not only enhance the scenic views from this popular spot but also help native species thrive. WHEN: Wednesday, Dec 3 from 9am to 12pm. Volunteer check-in will begin at 8:45am. Volunteer: Invasive Plant Removal & Hike at Gravois Creek Conservation Area on Dec 7thWHAT: Help the Community Stewardship Alliance enhance Gravois Creek Conservation Area by removing invasive Bush Honeysuckle from the park. The group will work on removing various invasive species including bush honeysuckle, beefsteak, creeping charlie, wintercreeper, and miscanthus. At the end of day we will hike the new trail through the conservation area. Bush honeysuckle prevents development of native tree, shrub, and ground layer species, displacing native species by out-competing and shading the forest floor and depleting the soil of moisture and nutrients. Join passionate, like-minded volunteers in the removal* of invasive species at Gravois Creek Conservation Area! *Removal may include the use of herbicide Gravois Creek Conservation Area is a 13.7 acre natural area that is owned and maintained by the Missouri Department of Conservation with Ambassadors Besa Schweitzer & Erin Goss leading restoration efforts.
